As the Meat and Seafood Department specialist, you will be responsible for operations within the Meat/Seafood Department and report the Meat/Seafood manager, ensuring they align with our mission, budget, stocking standards, and product presentability, and for maintaining accurate pricing, signage programs, and purchase-ready cases.
You will be accountable for the departments™s profitability, sales, appearance, and customer service, and enforcing all standards.
Your role will encompass the service of the Meat and Seafood Department€™s team and all activities within the department.
Activities include receiving, inspections, cutting, presentations, sanitation and safety standards, recipe development, and other responsibilities as needed for both meat and seafood.
Develop and operate an amazing Meat and Seafood Department and customer experience.
Provide all functions, duties, and activities for the Meat and Seafood Department.
Work with suppliers to be knowledgeable regarding seasonal seafoods, specials, and/or shortages.
Inspect all deliveries to ensure price, quality and freshness of products.
Create and/or follow merchandising plans that are specific to the department and implement them, and create displays for new and seasonal items to achieve the sales and profit objectives of the store and the department.
Adhere to the department's established procedures for receiving merchandise, including inspecting the delivered products for quality, quantity, and pricing, and restocking cases to maintain product freshness, accuracy, and rotation.
Control departmental expenses by improving efficiency and operations, managing labor costs, and reducing losses due to shrinkage and pilferage.
Maintain effective housekeeping practices, ensure that all products meet all health department regulations, and meet the company's sanitation standards.
Ensure associates work safely and comply with FDA regulations and local, state, and government weights and measures laws.
Identify areas for improvement in customer service in the Meat/Seafood Department, and implement changes and procedures to address them.
Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return, and this especially includes the meat cutting room.
Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions, implement and enforce shrink mitigation practices, and note any discrepancies in inventory, ensuring the merchandise is free of any damaged/spoiled/or unattractive items and maintaining accurate pricing and signage.
Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying the appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the Meat/Seafood Department and throughout the store.
Comply with all state, county, and local weights and measures laws, health codes, and labeling requirements.
Notify management of customer or associates' accidents.
Demonstrate and ensure your team's understanding of primary cuts of meat, and the ability to identify and distinguish between them.
Demonstrate and ensure your team's knowledge of meat-cutting principles, including detailed cuts and equipment use.
Demonstrate and ensure your team's understanding of planograms as related to case presentation, ensuring the proper placement and arrangement of products.
Demonstrate and ensure your team's familiarity with Meat/Seafood Department cleaning and sanitation procedures, and prioritize associate safety in all activities.
Adhere to safety protocols, such as wearing appropriate clothing and protective equipment, and follow safe lifting practices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Report all safety risks, or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, and electric forklifts, (only if of appropriate age) to move heavy items and large quantities of merchandise.

Report all safety risks, or issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Work with Deli & Food Trailer staff to move aging meat and seafood for prepared foods.
Qualifications: · Possess previous experience in the Meat/Seafood Department or in a closely related position, · Demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability to effectively manage customer interactions.
· Exhibit exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities effectively and simultaneously.
· Communicate clearly and professionally with excellent interpersonal skills.
· Thrive in a fast-paced environment and able to work efficiently and effectively under pressure.

· Ability to memorize and understand company policies, inventory control procedures, PLU codes, shipping and receiving procedures, check stand and keyboard operations, and product locations.
· Ability to carry out higher than basic level mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), including margins and mark-ups.
· Ability to operate stoves, ovens, slicers, among other pieces of kitchen equipment and occasionally pallet jacks, hand trucks, garbage and card board compactors, electric fork lifts, (only if of appropriate age) as well as a box knife or cutter.
· Ability to work flexible hours that include morning, day, and evening shifts in a 365 day, 24/7 setting, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
