Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

§ Prepares dining room for meal service, including setting up tables, refilling condiments,
wrapping silverware, stocking of supply stations and/or buffet tables, brewing coffee/tea
etc.
§ Checks tables for readiness by determining that
o Silverware is clean and polished and properly arranged
o Condiments are refilled and readily available for use
o Bread and butter plates are on each table
o Linens are clean
o Napkins are appropriately folded
o Chairs are pushed in
o Crumbs from prior meal service have been removed from tables, chairs,
and floor.
Run small sweeper as necessary.
§ Greets, seats, takes meal orders of residents entering the dining room.
§ Relays orders to kitchen and serves beverages.
§ Converses with residents to promote social interaction and provide emotional support.
§ Practices positive resident relations by responding promptly and positively to resident
requests.
Directs resident comments and/or concerns to supervisor.
§ Assists with preparation of meals, salads, and desserts as instructed; i.
e.
ladling soup,
tossing salads, portioning pies and desserts, and other services as needed.
Garnishes and
decorates dishes preparatory to serving.
§ Maintains proper temperature of food during preparation and service.
Uses covers and
heat lamp as appropriate.
§ Serves meals in a timely and respectable manner.
Delivers meal trays to resident units as
necessary.
§ Is aware of residents’ special dietary needs, i.
e.
low-sodium and low-sugar diets,
allergies, etc.
§ Assists in checking meals during service to ensure meals are served accurately in
accordance with menu, resident’s diet and/or food preferences.
§ Observes residents to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meals
have been completed.
§ Clears tables during and after meal service using proper serving and removing techniques
and replaces soiled table linens.
§ Assists with cleaning, vacuuming the dining room and/or kitchen.
§ Assists with washing and distributing clean dishes as instructed.
§ Labels, dates and stores food properly according to established guidelines.
§ Ensures that refrigerator and freezer temperatures are within appropriate range and
reports discrepancies to supervisor.
§ Advises supervisor of any departmental supplies, equipment and materials to be repaired
or replaced.
§ Maintains confidentiality regarding residents’ personal and health information and
respect residents’ privacy.
Adheres to the resident bill of rights as defined by State law.

§ Immediately reports incidents, unusual occurrences, and observations pertaining to
changes in residents’ health and/or behavior to a supervisor.
§ Handles china, glassware and equipment safely and as instructed to minimize breakage.
§ Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
§ Practices safe, sanitary food handling.
§ Ensures safe work environment by following established guidelines regarding infection
control techniques, applying safe working practices and by reporting hazards.
Monitors
own sanitation, hygiene and health standards.
§ Minimizes own health risk by performing duties in accordance with established
guidelines, i.
e.
using proper body mechanics, using equipment properly.
§ Follows designated plan of action in the event of fire or other emergency situation.
§ Performs all duties in accordance with company policy and procedures as well as federal
and/or state laws and regulations.
§ Attends required staff meetings and in-service training.
§ Develops and maintains good working relationship and cooperative attitude with
interdepartmental personnel as well as other departments within community.
§ Performs other duties as assigned.
