This is an entry-level engineering position in the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department.
The incumbent will work under the guidance of a licensed professional engineer, performing research, analysis, plans review, cost estimating, preparing reports, other engineering activities related to capital improvement projects design and construction.
Works under the general direction of the Public Works Director or assigned designee.
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position.
During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers.
City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able to perform emergency services duties, as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Assists in the development of various design and construction projects for city infrastructure such as water distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection systems, sidewalks, roadways, and stormwater.
Conducts technical research related to city infrastructure.
Prepares documents necessary for permitting of projects and submits to appropriate agencies for approval.
Completes project reviews and markups of engineering plans and specifications to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
Conducts analysis of project-related data and engineering calculations as needed.
Assists in the development of the annual update of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
Conducts technical research to ensure regulatory compliance updates of city infrastructure such as water, wastewater, and stormwater.
Prepares detailed cost estimates for Public Works projects.
Reviews field surveys for design and construction of public works projects.
Assists with project management of City projects.
Organizes and participates in various project meetings.
Prepares and disseminates required documentation as appropriate.
Preparation of project-associated calculations, reports, and spreadsheets.
Inspects construction sites for conformance with design intent.
Prepares and maintains records and files.
Updates computer-generated maps such as GIS layers and data information.
Participates in the writing and/or the review of contracts for outside work.
Participates with project QA/QC to ensure quality for assigned tasks.
Assists other departments with engineering-related problems.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONSAttends seminars, workshops, City Council meetings, and Advisory Board meetings related to assigned duties and responsibilities.
Assists other city staff members in design and construction techniques, and training when necessary.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Bachelor's degree (BS) in Civil Engineering or related engineering field.
One (1) year of professional experience or a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
The preferred candidate will have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination and obtained an Engineer Intern (EI) certification.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Employees in this position are required to pass the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS- 700 within 30 days of employment.
The ICS-100 and ICS-200 within 90 days of employment.
There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your supervisor.
