Overview:
We are currently seeking a Facilities Structures Engineer with design experience involving conventional wood framing, steel, masonry, and concrete to support restoration and rehabilitation design efforts and structural condition assessments.
Projects typically involve educational facilities, airport terminals and hangars, public use facilities, and commercial offices.
Responsibilities involve designing of a variety of simple to moderately complex building structures projects along with evaluation and repairs of existing structures; communicating problem sets to senior staff; overseeing the preparation of constructions plans; generating engineering reports and project specifications; and providing engineering oversight during construction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (may include but are not limited to): Project manage various building design elements to complete a project, component, or system with other inter-disciplinary team members with clear and specific objectives.
Project manage the preparation of complete project documentation to include plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimates.
Inspect properties to evaluate existing structural conditions and provide technical advice on safe and efficient rehabilitation designs involving plan reviews, field investigations, structures analysis, and developing structural solutions.
Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work; works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects using time efficiently to stay within budget and deliver on time.
Assists in the preparation of project scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules.
Assists with proposals including bid documents, project reports, studies, and other documentation.
Directs the preparation of sheet outlines for preliminary and final plans and specifications.
Coordinates and directs the work of others in the accomplishment of project assignments.
Reviews designs, plans, specifications, and design analysis prepared by others covering project features for sufficiency, practicability, and compliance with design requirements and established policies.
Serves on independent technical review teams and/or quality assurance, quality control (QA/QC) teams.
Coordinates structural design with other organizational elements and technical disciplines to ensure integration of architectural, mechanical, electrical, and fire protection building systems.
Receives general direction on key objectives; receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional or complex programs, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
Interacts and collaborates with clients, contractors, and other project team members.
Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments/projects.
Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structures.
5-8 years’ building structures engineering design experience.
Proficiency with local building codes and existing building standards.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Proficiency with Bentley Ram Structural Suite or similar Finite Element Modeling software.
Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision.
Ability to maintain confidentially and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.
Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office environment under pressure of deadlines.
Ability to orally and communicate complex structural concepts and solutions in simple, concise, and accurate ways.
LICENSURE Valid drivers’ license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record.
Florida Professional Engineer licensure or ability to obtain Florida licensure within six (6) months of SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.
ENVIRONMENT Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting.
Site visits may occasionally take place in an outdoor environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time.
The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
