As a Fireworks Designer with Disney Live Entertainment - Disney Signature Experiences, you will be responsible for developing and driving all aspects of the creation of new live show Fireworks and Special Effects designs, as well as remounts of existing seasonal shows and creative sustainment of current shows for Disney Cruise Line Entertainment.
This is a 12-month Project Hire/Internal Assignment position with no guarantee of permanent placement.
Responsibilities/You Will Lead Fireworks and Special Effects Designs for all DSE - DLE Productions (live shows) and facility infrastructure (venues / systems) through the effective execution of the creative process, ensuring the design and systems align with Company and Local Authorities code and standards Supervise additional resources as required, crafting a Fireworks and Special Effects work strategy for any potential Project Design Team members Contribute to the Show Life Cycle during many of the creative, production, and delivery phases Develop and lead project budgets, design deliverables and labor requirements Provide Design Deliverables with due dates, be accountable for timely delivery at all phases Provide Technical input and recommendations for Production Schedule and Project Milestones Advise the pre-visualization and programming phases of Fireworks and Special Effects show control Specify and procure required equipment, products, content and/or software.
Provide field support through install, test & adjust, programming, training, rehearsal and opening Build and maintain the accurate documentation materials for new shows including design drawings, plans, schematics and layout drawings.
Complete all final As-Installed documentation for turnover to the entertainment park operations teams Be responsible for maintaining the Disney Standards for Entertainment Fireworks and Special Effects designs.
Partner with Consultant Fireworks and Special Effects Designers and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training and accurate documentation of all Fireworks and Special Effects services are delivered Partners with Worldwide Safety team and Disney Cruise Line Safety team to ensure maritime safety standards are met and ensure Flag compliance.
Conduct ongoing "Entertainment Show Quality" evaluations of existing offerings at DSE – DLE and provide support to maintain their original show intent Maintain a relationship with fireworks compound, safety, purchasing, vendors and partner with governmental agencies in approving/permitting effects uses by Walt Disney World Collaborate with shipboard Manager of Entertainment Technical and shipboard entertainment technical teams with regards to past, present and future show installations.
Basic Qualifications/You Will Have 5+ years experience in the Entertainment Industry working in theatrical design, show development and operation of live shows focusing on special effects/pyrotechnics design.
Proficiency in FireOne firing software and hardware, scripting software, and previsualization software.
Extensive knowledge of current technology and industry standards for all aspects of, special effects/pyrotechnics design, presentation styles, (theatrical, industrial, concert, and touring) as applied to live show and facility systems Experience supporting the creative process by working with other Designers, Directors, Writers and Producers Experience managing a team and working with the special effects crew to prioritize, coordinate, instruct and problem-solve during installation, test and adjust and cueing throughout delivery of a project Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays.
Willing to travel to domestic and foreign venues for extended periods of time Must have, or be willing to obtain a passport and corporate credit card for overseas travel Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of experience in live show development with The Walt Disney Company Required Education BA in Theater Technology and Design (MFA preferred) or equivalent work experience in theater with focus on special effects/pyrotechnics design Additional Information Completion of The Walt Disney Company beginning pyrotechnics training course, advanced training course and any applicable local or state required certifications/licenses will be required.
