The Senior Lighting Designer serves as one of the creative leaders and representatives for Disney Live Entertainment's Lighting Design department.
You will develop and implement lighting designs for new live shows, and facility infrastructures as well as for the remount of existing seasonal shows for Live Entertainment.
This is a casual temporary/seasonal position and will report to the Principal Lighting Designer.
What You Will Do
Design and lead very large scale/spectacular level, long-term projects, with potential oversight for staff and associate level team members
Direct, prioritize, coordinate, and problem-solve during the entire course of the lighting design project
Extensively participate in the creative development of a project
Develop and provide guidance on the project’s lighting budgets and labor requirements
Maintain up-to-date show documentation while partnering closely with consultant Lighting Designers and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training, and documentation of all lighting services delivered
Conduct ongoing “Entertainment Show Quality” evaluations of existing offerings to provide support in the maintenance of original show design intent
Demonstrate and exhibit strong leadership with team members and partners to step in and adequately represent both the Principal Designer and the overall department when called upon
Required Qualifications & Skills
7+ years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working in theatrical design, show development, and operation of live shows
Proven experience in Lighting Design practice and procedures including show design, fixture design, and lighting programming
Outstanding knowledge and understanding of the Lighting Design creative process, theory, and practice as it relates to the development of the design
Strong understanding and working knowledge of current technology and industry standards for all aspects of Lighting Design (theatrical, industrial, concert, touring, etc.
)
Proven ability to lead and work closely with a Master Electrician and lighting crew to prioritize, coordinate, instruct, and problem-solve during installation, focus, and cueing through the delivery of the project
Ability to deliver on a project’s established scope, schedule, and budget
Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and travel
Willing to travel to domestic and international venues for extended periods
Education
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Theater Technology and Design, with a focus on live show lighting
