An Artist Preparator is required to work from show documentation, designer's concepts, renderings, or verbal descriptions, relying on personal talent and ability to produce, re-create or repair models, first articles, and temporary solutions of scenic elements and treatments, show props and figures.
Use all types of materials, tools, and methods for achieving an acceptable level of theming necessary to attain the artistic aspect, design, and overall look required by the Walt Disney Imagineering Show Quality Standards.
A successful individual will provide artistic guidance to a team of Show Finishers as they also help estimate labor & materials for future work requests.
The Artist Preparator will report to the Manager of Engineering Services of Facilities.
What You Will Do Responsible in addressing and/or scheduling the Unplanned Corrective (UC) and Planned Corrective (PC) work dictated by our park clients and Engineering Services Management Provide frequent backlog and project updates to leadership Produce and maintain themed show sets, props, figures, and characters in both a shop and field environment using multiple media and materials including FRP, butyrate, latex, oil-based products, adhesives, urethanes, poly-mixes, acrythanes, enamels, and blacklight; fur, feathering and sewing techniques and animated figure skin color matching to documented standards.
Develop material finishes from undocumented sources, detailed sources, and field samples Use an array of materials and techniques to problem-solve issues as they arise with limited work times and resources for us Assume a leadership role in providing direction and mentorship to Show Finishers, taking direction from the department leader Exemplify a high Safety standard as it pertains to the work environments and materials being used for us Communicate and coordinate with leadership, partners, and Art Direction Required Qualifications & Skills Artist Preparator experience A minimum of five years experience in a scenic painting or related field Have a high degree of skills in plastisol/hot melt skin buttering, sculpting with different media, tree and foliage fabrication, fur and feathering techniques, scenic set painting, scenic treatments about attractions, airbrushing skills, and hand-painting techniques.
Individuals will have a portfolio reflecting past work experiences and projects of their work concerning animated figures, skins, mold making, vehicles, dry brush, wash, and faux texture painting techniques, character finishes, and show a solid understanding of human anatomy.
Well-defined tactics to balance several high-priority assignments, and perform job responsibilities within set timeframes Ability to understand and convey written or verbal data and analysis to partners at all levels Willing to work evenings, holidays, weekends, and varying shifts including overnight Proven understanding of fur, sewing, and pattern-making Experience with black light paint and techniques Knowledge of fiberglass and butyrate repairs and maintenance Sculpt ability demonstrating a variety of forms, subjects, and techniques Physical role requiring heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and kneeling Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of theme park environment.
Knowledge of Walt Disney World® Resort procedures.
Proficient in standard office software programs and mobile electronic devices with emphasis on using Maximo or other work order tracking systems Education College-level courses in the arts field or degree or equivalent experience Additional Information Benefits and Perks: Disney offers a rewards package to help you live your best life.
