The role of the Artisan is to support design, document and implement creative intent in the areas of Paint, Rockwork, and/or Character Facades.
The Artisan partners with the Leads, Production Designer and Project Teams to develop strategies from design through implementation.
The individual must be capable of creating themed finishes that fulfill creative design intent.
Responsible for ensuring that all design, documentation, and production work is supportive of current standard processes and the production strategy.
Design documentation (color boards, samples, models, etc.
) developed by the Artisans is used to describe and illustrate the Paint, Rockwork, and/or Character Facades intent for bidding and construction purposes!
This is Full-time role.
Responsibilities
Implement documentation based on direction from lead Artisan on project.
Oversee contractors/vendors during installation.
Prepare project close-out documentation.
Provides support for models, color boards, sample production, mock-ups, staging efforts, vendor liaison, and scenery production.
Has ability to mix paint colors to match palettes as advised by lead Artisan for Paint specialty.
Partner with other fields to develop design intent through an understanding of the story intent, place-making or atmosphere.
Research history, geography, geology, or architecture as needed.
Collaborate with other designers on the project team to acquire drawings and documents relative to the Artisan's specialty.
Implement strategies relating to area of specialty.
Connect with Production Designer regarding Artistic Execution strategies and Creative intent.
Work with SD&P leads relative to design and production strategies, schedule progress, design inputs required, completion of design landmarks, metrics on earned value, etc.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 2 years in Rockwork, Character Façades, and/or Paint design, production and installation or related entertainment field.
Ability to perform tasks from ladders, scaffold, or mobile life equipment.
Must have experience and expertise in one of the following two fields:
Sculpture: The Artisan should also have familiarity with all aspects of Rockwork or Character Facade implementation, to include knowledge of tools, methods and materials particular to themed plaster.
Sculpting abilities particularly from 2D imagery or verbal direction, have familiarity with the tools of the trade, understand architectural drawings, and take verbal direction from various team members and implement it.
Familiarity with 2D and 3D digital design tools (such as Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD and Revit) are a plus.
Color & Paint: The Staff level Artisan should have familiarity with all aspects of paint implementation to include preparation of various surfaces, knowledge of paint material and its accurate application.
A practical understanding of color theory and shown paint skills required.
Domestic and international travel required.
Preferred Education
Bachelor’s degree in theater, fine arts or environmental design preferred, not required.
