Position Summary As a Senior Renewable Electrical Engineer at DLR Group you will be responsible for high voltage substation design and interconnections for utility scale renewable energy projects.
As a key part of our integrated design teams, you create renewable energy systems to promote environmental stewardship and elevate the human experience through design.
You will be responsible for participating in the design process of renewable energy generation systems and preparing or reviewing detailed electrical drawings and calculations for high voltage projects interconnecting at the transmission level.
This role will support both utility scale and behind the meter renewable energy projects.
The successful candidate will lead overall project scope to include various aspects of the following: design document review, assessment of EPC procured equipment, review or preparation of construction plans and project specifications, along with construction monitoring and testing/commissioning.
The list below is a general overview of duties: Assist in developing project objectives, goals, and documentation.
Develop or coordinate electrical designs from concept through completion of construction.
Manage a team of junior engineers/designers as needed.
Prepare engineering design calculations and layouts.
Prepare and/or review HV construction specification including but not limited to construction plan and sequence.
Coordinate with client, EPC and utility site commissioning plans.
Prepare and/or review telecom and interconnection submittals.
Oversee transmission operator telemetry and metering specification.
Prepare and/or review: HV disconnect specifications, substation control specifications, engineering reports and narratives, HV construction specification including but not limited to construction plan and sequence, voltage drop calculations, conduit fill, load flow voltage regulation, relay settings, protective relay coordination, and Arc Flash studies.
Review or prepare technical studies such as: TOV study, harmonics study, ETAP/SKM/PSSE, grounding analysis, lightning protection studies, Coordinate electrical design requirements with electrical, structural, civil, mechanical, architecture, and other disciplines.
Coordinate renewable energy project design requirements with utility scale clients, construction and site development teams.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent 5+ years of experience designing generation power systems on complex projects.
Licensed Professional Engineer.
Proven experience as engineer designing power and generation systems on complex projects.
Experience with AutoCAD, AutoDesk, Revit or other CAD software Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in 15kV through 230kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
Experience in coordinating small project teams.
Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.
Design of solar, storage or wind energy systems for utility scale projects Manage all schedule, budget, and quality of assigned projects, including cost estimating Experience and interest in designing utility scale renewable energy systems.
An appreciation and understanding of environmental stewardship and utility scale solar, storage or wind energy projects.
A desire to collaborate and work alongside architects and the way they work and think.
