General Description This position involves skilled work in the care and operation of a Rear Loader, Automated Side Loader, and or Clam Truck to collect refuse and trash from residences.
Work is performed under general supervision.
This position is non-exempt.
Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply.
Per Florida Statute 295.
065, certain servicemembers and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such servicemembers and veterans, receive preference and priority, and that certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled.
Primary Duties Drive, operate, lift and dump refuse containers into the Sanitation Truck.
Empty garbage cans and load trash (limbs, leaves, grass, etc.
) into the Sanitation Truck.
Uses pitch forks, shovels, and similar hand tools to pick up general refuse and trash from curbside and other areas.
Exercises appropriate safety precautions while vehicle is in operation.
Judges heights and distances while truck is in operation.
Completes designated refuse collection route and delivers waste.
Performs daily pre-trip inspection of vehicle.
Fuel and clean trucks at the end of the day, and perform light preventative maintenance (greasing of pinch points, etc.
) May be placed on emergency call outs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED.
At least one (1) year experience of CDL Class "B" or "A" driving.
Valid Class "B" Commercial Florida Driver's License with air brake endorsement.
Obtain FEMA IS100 and IS700 within six (6) months from date of employment.
Essential Physical Functions & Environmental Conditions Physical Demands Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50lbs, and occasionally up to 80lbs.
Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending.
Good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
Good eyesight, hearing, and speech.
Requires extended periods of driving while on route.
Must be able to wear personal protection equipment (PPE).
Work Environment Works outside in sometimes adverse environmental conditions (e.
g.
, heat, cold, and rain) for moderate periods of time.
Exposure to traffic and moving machinery.
