General Statement of Job
Under occasional supervision, operates garbage, trash and/or special trash trucks to collect City garbage and yard waste and transport loads to landfills.
Performs vehicle and equipment maintenance work as required.
Reports to the Solid Waste Supervisor.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: Collects garbage from residential and commercial properties and transports loads to landfills in accordance with established schedules and routes.

Assembles collection containers for delivery to customers; repairs containers as needed.
Observes all applicable safety rules and regulations.
Maintains assigned vehicles, equipment and tools; inspects vehicles prior to use for safety; fuels and cleans vehicles as needed.
Prepares and submits required forms and records.
Participates in the maintenance of positive customer relations.
Enters basic customer information into computer.
Operates a garbage truck, trash truck, container truck, pressure washer, computer, as well as a variety of mechanic's tools and various other hand tools.
Exercises care and safety in the use and maintenance of required tools and equipment.
Interacts and communicates with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and the general public.
Additional Job Functions: Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by one to two years of experience driving a truck, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida CDL Class B with proper endorsements.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required Schedule: Position requires at least 40 hours per week and may require working a rotating schedule Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including garbage trucks, various hand and power tools, etc.
Tasks involve the regular and at times sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of driving, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communications: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.
