What is a Home Health Aide (HHA/CNA)?
A Home Health Aide is a paraprofessional who is specifically trained and performs assigned functions of personal care to the patient in their residence under the direction, instruction, and supervision of the registered nurse (RN).
What does a Home Health Aide do?
Home Health Aide provides a variety of tasks during patient visits depending on the specific plan of care and type of patient.
Some tasks include:
Performs personal care, bath, and hands-on care as assigned.
Completes appropriate visit records promptly as per Agency policy.
Reports change in the patient’s condition and need to the RN.
Performs household services essential to health care in the home as assigned.
Ambulates and exercises the patient as assigned.
What are the qualifications for a Home Health Aide?
Must meet Medicare Conditions of Participation for Home Health Aide training program and competency
Have a sympathetic attitude toward the care of the sick and elderly
Ability to carry out directions, read and write
Do you need home health care experience to be a Home Health Aide?
Previous home health experience is not required.

Do Home Health Aides work alone?
Home Health Aides are autonomous, but they are not alone.
All field staff works with supportive clinical supervisors, and the Home Health Aide is a vital part of the collaborative clinical team.
