Perform a variety of semi-skilled, skilled and technical work in maintaining the City's water distribution system.
Works under the general direction of the Public Works Director, or assigned designee.
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position.
During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers.
City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able perform emergency services duties, as assigned.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Plans, schedules, and oversees maintenance, operations, and construction activities on the water distribution system.
Leads and directs Utility Technician I (Water) personnel, and/or other assigned personnel, in completing work assignments.
Monitor installation and maintenance work of contractors on water distribution systems to ensure applicability and compliance with established procedures.
Perform highly responsible technical work in the maintenance and repair of the water distribution system network.
Remove, repair and install water meters, water distribution pipelines, hydrants, valves, and backflow preventors.
Conducts water pressure and water meter tests.
Make live taps on water mains and install water service connections.
Reads and interprets water meters and gauges, blue prints, and construction drawings.
Respond to customer concerns.
Checks water in homes and businesses for taste, odor, color, and pressure to ensure compliance with FDEP Standards.
Maintain availability for “standby” assignment for a week at a time or other pre-determined schedule, and availability for return to work under City’s “call back” procedures.
Oversees, and when necessary performs, “locates” of utilities prior to excavation as required.
Maintain daily Log Book as per FDEP.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Assist Water Superintendent in analyzing operating costs and help develop the annual budget.
Assist Water Superintendent in training, both professional and safety; motivating; and evaluating division personnel.
Completes forms, writes reports for various regulatory agencies.
Maintain equipment inventory records and stockroom for repair parts and supplies.
Coordinate scheduling of vehicles for Fleet Maintenance.
Coordinate the meter reading activities, turn-off & on requests and meter change-outs with Utility Billing.
Serves on various committees and attends meetings as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
Two or more years’ experience in the operation of a water distribution system or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possess a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification, Class B, or obtain the CDL certification within six (6) months of employment.
Must also possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 within 30 days of employment and the ICS-100 within 90 days of employment.
There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your Supervisor.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possess and maintain certification as a Florida Level 3 Distribution System Operator License.
