General Description
This position performs utility billing related field tasks such as meter disconnects, reconnects and misreads to accurately read and record water consumption of utility customers.
Performs work under the general supervision of the Utility Billing Manager.
This position is non-exempt.

Primary Duties
Reads water meters on assigned routes and records reading in hand held computer.
Turns water service on and off at individual’s meter in accordance with authorization of supervisors.
Inspects visible plumbing and meter for water leakage and tags the customer’s door when leak is found.
Makes re-inspections of meters to verify readings and makes physical inspections of customer complaints, as needed.
Responsible for City truck e.
g.
cleaning, scheduling maintenance, fueling, etc.
Maintains and clears meter boxes of bugs, vegetation, sand, dirt and other debris.
Responsible for making meters identifiable whether through numbering with paint, markers or spray painting street and meter tops.
Reports any irregularities noted on route.
Writes up and delivers tags for high consumption.
Writes work orders for repair of meters found damaged during reading.
Checks for meter tampering, identifies and reports unauthorized connections, and reports illegal watering (during drought or restricted times) to Code Enforcement.
Answers questions and provides information and assistance to the public, as needed.
Utilizes mobile devices and software for work order management systems in daily task assignments.
Assists Utility Billing staff when requested.
May be required to work overtime and rotating shifts as needed; extended hours in emergency situations.
Discretely delivers delinquent notifications to commercial accounts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
No experience required; prefer some experience in water and wastewater fields.
Knowledge of City’s address system.
Ability to accurately read and record water meter readings.
Ability to get along with the public.
Skill in operating a motor vehicle.
Obtain FEMA IS100, IS700 within six (6) months from date of employment.
Valid Florida Driver's License.
In some cases, an equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field.

Physical Demands
Continual light work and occasional heavy work.
Able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending.
Good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
Good eyesight, hearing, and speech.
Regular driving of vehicle.
Must be able to wear personal protection equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
Works outside sometimes in adverse environmental conditions (e.
g.
, heat, cold, and rain) for moderate periods of time.
Exposure to construction and water/wastewater site hazards, traffic, and moving machinery.
Involves working with high voltage equipment, heights and below ground level conditions.
