Title: Plumber Apprentice Salary: $16 to $22 an hour Position Type: Full Time Job Objective Assists plumber and others in performing a variety of duties such as furnishing materials and tools, using tools to perform basic tasks, cleaning work area, equipment and other routine tasks.
Upon acceptance, participate and complete Tharp’s NCCER accredited and state-certified apprenticeship program.
Must perform all functions and responsibilities in alignment with Tharp’s quality standards and business ethics.
Essential Functions and Tasks Based on degree of plumbing competency, experience, and aptitude, assists plumbers with: Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment.
Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to the required angle, using hand and power tools and machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
Install pipe assembles, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers, and water heaters, and fixtures such as sinks and toilets, using hand and power tools.
Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
Repair and maintain plumbing, replacing defective washers, replacing or mending broken pipes, and opening clogged drains.
Clear away debris in a renovation.
Attend testing and labs required by Tharp Academy (apprenticeship program), studying and preparing at home in a timely fashion with Tharp provided curriculum.
Record and Submit OJT (On the Job Training) reports in a timely fashion to be submitted to the state.
Job Activities Performing general physical activities: considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials.
Getting information: Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
Handling and moving objects: Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning and moving materials and manipulating things.
Assist with accomplishing general construction tasks including excavation.
Occasionally safely operate company vehicles or equipment in strict compliance with the company’s Fleet Safety Program practices and policies.
Strict compliance with attendance policy stipulated in Employee Manual.
Skill Requirements Actively listen by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Ability to understand and use mathematics to solve problems.
Install equipment, machines, piping or programs to meet specifications.
Properly operate the right kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

Reading comprehension, including understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
Speaking to others to convey information effectively.
Effective written communication appropriate for the needs of the audience.
Coordinating and adjusting actions and work processes in relation to the actions of others.
Service orientation as reflected in actions aimed at helping others.
Performing routine maintenance on equipment.
Monitoring/assessing self-performance and to make improvements or take corrective actions.
Selecting and using training/instructional methods to learn new things.
Adapting to new technology and computer applications to promote greater productivity and higher quality work.
Knowledge, Experience and Education Requirements Knowledge of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words and the rules of composition.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings and other structures such as highways, garages, and toll plazas.
Knowledge of arithmetic and its application to plumbing applications.
Knowledge of relevant safety practices and procedures in a dynamic construction environment and behaviors/work practices to promote individual and group safety, health, and warfare.
High school graduate with enrollment in an apprenticeship program desired.
Knowledge of e-mail communication and ability to utilize computer/smartphone applications.
Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
