90 - /DOQ Status: Open until filled Job Description Performs skilled advanced work operating complex heavy construction and maintenance equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
An employee in a position assigned to this classification is responsible for safe operation of the equipment.
Responsibilities include performing routine safety checks and maintenance of the equipment as necessary.
Work is assigned and reviewed by a designated supervisor.
Performance is evaluated through observation of work in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results in a safe, efficient manner.
Essential Functions 100% - The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.
It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class.
The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.
Operates complex heavy equipment such as: dragline, motor grader, front-end loader, crane, back hoe, excavator, yard dog and off-road tractor trailer.
Performs or supervises loading and unloading of heavy equipment.
May supervise assigned equipment operators or work crew on a project basis.
Operates assigned equipment to excavate ditches or canals.
Loads materials, such as sand or rock on trucks.
Performs more difficult finishing and grading operations to engineering specifications.
Drives and maneuvers tractor trailers on yard dog for hauling and disposal operations.
Performs routine safety inspection of assigned equipment.
Performs minor maintenance duties; checks oil, fuel, water and air; cleans and washes equipment.
May set up barricades and act as spotter or flagman.
Participates in general labor duties.
Coordinates utility line locations prior to excavations.
Performs excavations to grade and slope in accordance with engineering specifications.
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical/appropriate assignment to position.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent plus two (2) to three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy automotive, construction, or maintenance equipment; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Drivers License and a Class B CDL.
Possess, or obtain within 12 months of hire, and maintain a Florida Work Zone Traffic Control Safety Certification.
Possess, or obtain within 12 months of hire, and maintain a Florida Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities KSA's - Knowledge and skill in the operation, maintenance, and use of medium to heavy automotive equipment and motor driven tools.
Knowledge of basic safety precautions and the occupational hazards connected with the use of moderately complex to heavy automotive equipment.
Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the use of equipment throughout the assigned work area.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment.
Knowledge of routine maintenance procedures for automotive equipment.
Knowledge of the geography of the City.
Skill in the operation of heavy and specialized motorized equipment.
Ability to issue oral instruction and provide direction and oversight to project work crews.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Tasks involve the intermittent performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
May require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavier objects.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS When operating a vehicle or automotive equipment, work includes exposure to some traffic conditions.
Due to the nature and location of the work environment, tasks include potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements, e.

, heat, humidity, inclement weather.
Some tasks include working around moving parts, carts, and materials handling where physical risks are predictable and/or controllable by observance of standard safety precautions.
